A Tool for Scientific Research

Initially designed as a tool for music composition, OrchSim has been used at IRCAM as part of the MAKIMOno research grant, at the University of Oldenburg as well as at the McGill University Perception and Cognition Lab for studies on the taxonomy of perceptual grouping effects in the orchestra and on the emotional response to orchestral timbres.

A fully immersive version of OrchSim is currently in development. It utilizes a surround speaker array for the dispositions of instruments in virtual hall acoustics.

The OrchSim system is not a commercial product. It is however possible to ask us about its usage in university research and commission multichannel audio renderings of orchestral works.
